Aritaya Ryokan is a small, family-run inn with over 110 years of history in Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, Nagano. It is a traditional Japanese ryokan, not a large hotel, where you can feel the atmosphere of old Japan as soon as you step inside.

Stone corridors and a nostalgic Taisho-era atmosphere

Inside the inn, stone corridors, wooden beams, and frosted glass windows create a soft, nostalgic light. Especially along the stone hallway, you’ll find photo-worthy corners – a retro room phone, old-style lamps, and details that feel like a scene from an old Japanese movie.

Many guests slow down, look around, and quietly enjoy this Taisho-era atmosphere. It feels less like a hotel and more like stepping into a warm, lived-in Japanese home from another time.

More than 110 years ago, the first owner of Aritaya came to Nagano from Saga Prefecture, selling Arita porcelain. His journey did not end with selling plates – it became the beginning of this small ryokan in Togura Kamiyamada Onsen.

Even now, each dish of our room dinner is served on authentic Arita porcelain, so you can enjoy both the taste of Nagano and the story that started our inn. We prepare a beautiful course dinner served in your room on authentic Arita porcelain, using seasonal ingredients such as local vegetables and mountain dishes.

After a quiet soak in the hot spring, many guests say that sitting on tatami and enjoying this private dinner becomes one of the most memorable moments of their trip to Japan.

Togura Kamiyamada Onsen is conveniently located between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka, making Aritaya Ryokan a perfect overnight stop on your way. From our small hot spring town, you can easily continue your journey by train or car the next day.

Our natural hot spring is a gentle, sulfurous, slightly alkaline “beauty bath” that many guests say leaves their skin feeling smooth. After a long travel day, soaking in the hot spring and then resting in a quiet tatami room is a wonderful way to reset your body and mind.
